Thoughts on interaction design

Jon Kolko

UX Book Club

This book seeks to explore Interaction Design (in general, HCI and web-based design), its definitions and to put a case forward for its importance in developing a good, 'poetic' experience and relationship between user and item.
Kolko breaks the book up into 4 sections:
  • Understanding ID
  • Connecting people, emotions and technology
  • The rhetorical nature of ID
  • Challenges facing ID in industry
Each has a contributing essay from a practitioner - these were the most interesting for me and gave me a break from Kolko's rather difficult to read prose.

It was a good choice for our book club - it gave us food for thought and interesting discussions, although in the end, we weren't particularly wowed by the book itself.

This was reprint of his book published in very small quantities a few years ago.
