Very much enjoyed reading the start of this novel, but ended up feeling disappointed and deflated with it in the last 20-30 pages. It didn't really all piece together well and seemed perfunctory and wee bit rushed at the end. However, Tim's writing is great, very evocative and bringing together people, feelings & landscape/waterscape and I enjoyed the exploration of risk-taking or not and what drives us to do so.

It was awarded the 2009 Miles Franklin Award.
