An engaging read, interesting bits about the building of the Ghan railway through central Australia.
Moves between past and present tying in family histories, white and Aboriginal but characters are a bit formulaic.
Central characters are Jess Manning, a young woman of mixed Aboriginal and Irish decent who has been hired as a negotiator to work with the local elders to ensure that all sacred sites are protected, and Matt Witherton, a senior surveyor working on the railway line from Alice Springs to Darwin.
Author has a home on the Central Coast.
